Vr6 to r32

Postby Kit » Fri Aug 20, 2010 12:40 pm

Once a VR6 has been installed properly, how much of a mission is it to upgrade to a 3.2L engine?

engine loom, ecu, drivers side engine mount, probably clocks too.

It's basically a similar swap again with a bit of custom fabrication thrown in.

Bugger. I was hoping that I could get a nice power-hike if I ever wanted one...

Do all the 24v engines have different wireing-loom/engine mount(s) to the 12v?

And there was me hoping it would just be swapping the ecu and dropping the engine in

VR6 is MK2/3 mounts.
R32 is MK4 and is mounted on the chassis legs.

Absolute world of difference in the wiring but you could probably butcher together a loom to make it run.

The ECU is a 121 pin EDC15. Not exactly plug and play to a MK3 VR6 loom. It's also matched to the MK4 clocks and keys.

Just had a thought, is it possible to use a 3.2 bottom end and a 12v head from a 2.9?

I'm guessing not but there's always hope... since the corrado i'm hoping to purchase has a blown bottom end so it'll be rebuilt either way while I use a 2.8.

The MK3 VR6 mounts will bolt to the R32 Block.

No its not, Its a ME7 ECU, EDC15 is for Diesel engines. The ECU is matched to the Clock cluster, but this can be turned off.

Thanks for the info, I will give you a ring on Wednesday after I come back from a business trip or perhaps earlier if I get a chance, what hours are you available on that number in your sig?

So there's a set of threaded holes on the back of the R32 block? I've never looked to be honest. That's handy to know.

Sorry got my ECUs mixed up.
