What year is the obd1 from? I'm looking at a 1994 plate, M reg VR6 to use as a donor, is there a difference in the systems, what is better, I have the harder task of getting it done as my mk2 is CE1, so excuse the stupid questions! :)

1994 will be ODB1 with a Dizzy.

With a Dissy if you want to keep the rev counter then you are going to be easyer converting to CE2 setup and use the mk3 clocks.

If you can find a coilpack engine you can keep the CE1 with some moiforcation to the loom. Took me about 4 weeks to comvert my ODB1 Coilpack loom to be plug and play with my CE1 jetta. added 1 extra cable from the coilpack to the clocks and i have a mk2 clock setup with working Rev counter, MFA and speedo with a 1.3 speedo cable.

Grtz Ron

dizzy = distributor, little circular red thing on the right side of the head

coilpack = coils in a pack, rectangular block on the right side of the head

both have the HT leads (spark plug leads) going to them

I have a mk2 vr6 but a previous owner carried out the conversion. Im thinking of reshelling it with a 1.3cl as i think itll be cheaper than having a body shop tackle the rot. Would this be relitivly straight forward as i already have everything on the old shell? I have next to no experiance at this sort of thing...

Hey,

I am glad i stumbled upon this forum as some as the info has helped. I am planning on doing this swap, And i was looking for opinions. I am Using my 91 Wolfsberg Jetta Coupe as the base, the donor car is a 91 Jetta glx. Will using the GLX be beneficial and provide everything i need or should i scrap it and look for another donor?

Thanks,
Colby

Can anyone shine some light on the mk4 gear shift? Any certain mk4 I need to get the selector from?
And is there any modifications needed?
Thanks

Because the harness is different, yes you need a vr6 harness.
