Deezys 88 gti vr6 swap

Postby deezy » Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:46 am

Its time to start my diary.

Image
Thought I would share. Just about ready to rip the motor out. I need to get another dolly to set it on and roll it out of the way. This picture is from today. I just got it pushed into the garage a couple hours ago.

I know some of you may not like the idea but I am going to piggy back the fuse panels which I believe will save alot of money in the long run. Might take a little extra time but I want my stock dash and not spend $200 replacing the loom and switches and such.
Just found out about the solid front mount that utilizes the original cross member. May go this route.

My issue of the moment where I find yes and no as the answer.
B4 pedal assembly with mk3 clutch cylinder? Along with a conversion bracket?

Ill worry about the radiator after the engine and harness is finished.

Too or not to have power steering and ac. Is it possible to delete ac only? I imagine so but looking at the belt assmbly I would need an extra pulley

My mk2 jetta ps does not work so I know what a pain it is.

Most of are vr's don't have aircon and the belt just runs straight down at the front so I would say you just need a shorter belt just got to your local spares place and say yourS ain't got aircon and you will fine

Nice... thanks for the info. Ill use the compressor on my mk3 .. the clutch seized up last summer.
Thinking about ordering the solid front mount that used the original cross member. Is anybody running this? I see it says cabin rattle I just want to know how bad. Like a huge cam?

Didn't get much done today. Yesterday I mowed. Today I had training after work.
Removed passenger side guts. Plan to do drivers side tomorrow.

I read the usa version of the gti cheaped out on the fuse panel which is why I have this weird one. I wonder if the cheaped out on assembly. My 90 is easier to take apart. All of these bolts are seized. Very badly. Im talking 2 foot long cheater bar.

Mocking up for mk3 shifter box.
Complete subframe out a couple days ago. Lower dash out for wiring.

Time to clean up the un needed wires and start tearing apart the mk3

All un needed wires removed. In the process I removed the constants to the fuse panel but that's an easy fix.
Today im going to hook up the constants, connect a power source and test all the lights and stuff I need.

Time to hit the scrap yard for a bracket, crossmember, and pedals. Can all of these items be removed from a 95bracket I know the bracket has to be non abs?
Once I install that I will start the mk3 tearsown down, mk3 wiring into mk2. Then frame...motor...

back on track with the vr6 swap into my gti. cleaning up the engine bay a bit. wrapped the original wiring i will keep. going to heat shield it soon.

Image

Time to pull the 96 gti around the block and rev her for the last time and tear it down.

things i have to figure out/order/what not
brake booster situation...
buy pedal assembly
buy front motor mount/frame.

Keeping mk2 p/s rack
4 lug
koni shocks/nuespeed springs

HAVE to figure out a instrument cluster...... hmmmm since i still have the mk2 lights in the mk2 original relay/fuse panel. blinkers and everything work BUT.. i need the blinkers to blink in the cluster.
What im thinking... find a ce2 mk2 cluster. hook up the the mk3 fuse/relay panel. than route the blinker wires to the mk2 panel with a splice or two. not a big deal yet but i can fail inspection for this reason.
im trying to think of any other issue i will have.
mk2 ce2 style cluster connected to the mk3 fuse/relay/ecu should work everything else.
maybe a splice for the head light switch to light up the cluster.

Thank you..

Mk3 is jacked up.. motor is loose except the exhaust. Bolts don't want to break loose.
Started ripping apart mk3 interior and getting the wiring seperated.
My goal from mon-sun is k-frame in and wheels on. Also a trip to the salvage yard is in order..
