My mk2vr6 Project Build

Hi all doing my first install but things are going well started a few months ago now so i pictures will be coming alittle fast as i wont be putting them up as i do things. I have had i few little problems but all the help has come of here so thanks to you all for that, so i thought i would put a few pics up to show you all what im doing.My golf started off as a 1.8 16v it was a clean looking car but just got bored off the power and was offered a vr6 for cheap so how could i resist doing the swap over. I wanted a vr6 next but i was going to garage my mk2 but why not knob two birds with one jonny and make them one car so here goes.

Got stuck in and started to take all the front off.

Started to disconnect all the wiring in the bay to free the engine and over the years i think there has been a few people messing with the engine loom because there is connectors everywhere most not even plugged in to anything but alot off wires linked of to other things what a mess.Now i have got stuck in things were moving fast and i was going to borrow my mates engine crane but couldnt wait so got my dad to come and give me a lift with the engine.

I was left with a rite mess off cables and pipes what a mess

Next day started to clear every thing out the way because the up side to having a donor car is im going to use everything off that to make it as easy as possible.

Alot of swearing later finaly got the sub frame finaly aff as one of the bolts had seized in,exhaust, brake pipes and the loom all out the way i can now see whats left and the damage 20 years has done to it.

Next to do was alot of grinding and getting the hammerite rust gel into action to try and save and stop the rust from spreading most of it was just surface but there was a few holes that needed to be delt with. Side by side after started to sheet the arms because i want to go for the smooth clean look.

Time for the fibre glass P40 to come out to start to cover all the joins and seam welds up so i can put P38 over the top.

After a long time sanding was all done on the P40 i could start putting the P38 on top this was a very happy moment for me because the fibre glass took a few weekends longer than a thought it would.

With things are ready i could put on the primer and move on to getting the engine out the vr i could get my hands on my tools again i couldnt work in a bodyshop sanding that stuff allday its so mind numbing.Didnt get many photos of the vr should of done really its a shame im taking its guts out really cus it was a black 3door tidy no rust car but i just love the mk2 tooo much.

Alot of labeling the looms and unbolting later the engine is ready to come out but i couldnt get the steering rack ball joints out the hubs

so im going to just not undo the back mounts off the subframe and drop it all down in one lot. Not what i wanted to do but it saves me a job of taking all the power steering pipes off.
